Technicians, Engineers, Educators, Anyone who wishes to learn knowledge and skill in precision engineering involving CNC machining

Participants who successfully complete this training will be able to:
1. CAD (Computer-Aided Design) Proficiency:
– Model Interpretation & Preparation: Accurately interpret 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models. Prepare and modify existing CAD models for machining, including identifying critical features, tolerances, and potential manufacturing challenges.
– Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Apply principles of DFM to optimize part designs for efficient and cost-effective CNC milling, considering tool access, material removal rates, fixturing, and post-machining operations.

2. CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) Expertise:
– Software Navigation & Setup: Navigate and effectively utilize leading Fusion 360 CAM software interfaces. Set up machining jobs, define stock material, and establish work coordinate systems.
– Toolpath Generation & Optimization: Generate various 2D and 3D toolpaths (e.g., face milling, pocketing, contouring, drilling, adaptive clearing, surfacing) appropriate for different part geometries and materials. Optimize toolpaths for reduced machining time, improved surface finish, and extended tool life.
– Feeds & Speeds Calculation: Accurately calculate and apply appropriate cutting parameters (spindle speed, feed rate, depth of cut, width of cut) for various tool-material combinations to optimize material removal and tool longevity.
– Post-Processing & G-Code Generation: Generate accurate and machine-specific G-code and M-code programs through effective post-processing, ensuring compatibility with target CNC machines.
– Simulation & Verification: Utilize CAM software’s simulation capabilities to visualize toolpaths, detect potential collisions, identify material removal issues, and verify program integrity before actual machining.

3.0 Practical Machining Competency:
– CNC Machine Setup & Operation: Safely and correctly set up a CNC milling machine, including fixturing workpieces, setting tool offsets, and establishing work offsets.
– G-Code Interpretation & Editing: Understand the fundamental principles of G-code and M-code, and be able to interpret, troubleshoot, and perform minor edits to CNC programs at the machine control.
– Tool Loading & Management: Properly load and unload cutting tools, understand tool holding mechanisms, and manage tool libraries on the CNC machine
– Safety Protocols: Adhere strictly to all relevant safety procedures and best practices for operating CNC machinery.
